Position Overview

The Area Sales Manager is responsible for planning, developing, and growing sales for multiple restaurant locations, while maintaining relationships with existing clients. This position is responsible for working with the management and catering teams at each store on our Mendo “Best Practices” for sales building and catering.

Build & Retain Sales

Utilizes new initiatives to drive sales by reaching out to past and current catering clients

  • Farmstand and other distribution partnerships to office
  • Bulk stored value at a discount
  • Other new initiatives as they are created
  • Collaborate with Marketing Department through bi-weekly meetings
  • Identify each store’s major target clients and organizes sales efforts through a variety of creative marketing channels
  • Is knowledgeable about each store’s top 20 catering clients and performs regular check-ins to ensure that Mendocino Farms continues to be their top choice
  • Creates weekly report outlining sales activities completed and outlines results
  • Acts as point of contact for outreach leading up to NSOs (New Store Openings)
    • Runs point in Street Team activities
    • Executes sample caterings and/or office/residential food drops
  • Review all stores in region on a quarterly basis with other Key Stakeholders to determine Focus Stores for the upcoming quarter (4-6 Focus Stores is ideal)

Monitor Sales & Trends Within Market

  • Understands the overall region’s fast casual market, competitors’ strengths and weaknesses, economic trends, supply and demand, and how to sell against them
  • Participates in networking opportunities with others in the region (admins, restaurant operators/salespeople, etc.)
  • Stays up to date on local trends and needs as they arise and creatively thinks through solutions to new challenges
  • Monitors guest reviews through Yext, looks for trends per store and reviews with DO for improvement

Being the Local Brand Ambassador

  • Serve as Key Connecter per market (for both marketing & guests)
    • Main contact for property managers and centers
    • Owner of store database / Rolodex* (*this is something the Marketing team has started)
    • Vet local events and marketing opportunities
  • Contribute localized content for Mendo’s social channels (Instagram and Facebook)
    • e. events, Team Members, etc.


  • The Area Sales Manager acts as the catering liaison between the Operations Team and the Marketing Team regarding the Catering Department
  • Partners with Operations (VP of Ops, DOs, Ops Services, etc.) to attract, develop and retain the right team members to maintain the Mendocino Farms “Best in Class” Catering Standards
  • Directs, leads, and coaches the Catering Team using sales initiatives and “Best in Class” Standards to achieve individual and team sales goals

Key Skills and Requirements

  • Travel is required, must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Proven ability to develop, nurture, and maintain strong client relationships
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be organized, and possess a strong sense of urgency and professional demeanor
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Candidates must live within the region they support and must have the ability to work remotely
