Job Summary

Our sightseeing company is in need of a skilled assistant engineer to help service our fleet of vessels. We currently operate 4 vessels in the NY harbor and need the help of qualified engineers to help perform maintenance, repowers, rebuilds.

Position-specific responsibilities

  • Assist in the routine maintenance and inspections of:
  • Vessel hulls (aluminum and steel)
  • Pumps
  • Plumbing
  • Propulsion engines
  • Generators
  • Electricals systems
  • Low voltage electronics
  • Steering systems
  • HVAC systems
  • Diagnose various problems aboard our vessels and determine appropriate repair work
  • Ability to source parts
  • Ability to find contractors for specific repairs outside in house capability
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to delegate work with prioritization
  • Ability to weld aluminum and steel (preferred)
  • Fabrication and carpentry skill (preferred)
  • Maintain logs and follow up reports
  • Perform tasks independently with limited / no direction
  • Create a cost-efficient maintenance routine and track parts inventory
  • Knowledge of Coast Guard Regulations and ability to keep vessels in compliance
  • Reports directly to Port Engineer

Desired background

  • At least 1 years as a marine mechanic (required) ; 3 years (preferred)
  • QMED, Assistant Engineer/ Chief Engineer License (preferred)
  • Electrician certification preferred, not required
  • Familiarity with marine application engines and auxiliary equipment
  • Experience with operation and maintenance of marine machinery
  • Familiarity with Detroit, John Deere, Caterpillar, Cummins, Northern lights engines
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds
  • A physically demanding job requiring the ability to stand, reach, bend, stoop and walk up and down stairs and on uneven/moving surfaces
  • Own your own tools and vehicle to bring them to work location (preferred)
  • Must have the weekends, on-call, and holiday availability
  • Job hours may vary
  • Pre-employment background check, pre-employment and random drug testing required in accordance with Coast Guard regulations

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year

  • Monday to Friday
  • Night shift
  • Weekend availability
