We are seeking a Growth and Improvement minded Process Attribute Sciences Associate Director that can help drive our Strategic Operating Priorities.

Strategic Summary

The Global Vaccines and Biologics Commercialization (GVBC) team within our Company Manufacturing Division focuses on late-stage process development, technology transfer, and in-line support of large molecules including vaccine and biologic therapeutic products (live-attenuated vaccines, inactivated vaccines, subunit, recombinant proteins, polysaccharide, and conjugate vaccines). Our mission is to enable current and future compliant supply of our finest inventions to patients at a competitive cost through technical excellence.

We serve manufacturing sites through the commercialization of our pipeline as well as by providing technical support to enable make, test, and release of our products. We partner across areas of the Manufacturing Division (MD) and cross-divisionally with Research Labs (RL) with the ultimate goal of delivering innovative products to patients.

We need an energetic, people-oriented leader with strong scientific and technical skills to lead the separations process attribute sciences team of 8-10 scientists, supporting multiple large molecule programs in late-stage development. In this role, the successful candidate will partner seamlessly with GVBC DS and DP colleagues to provide robust, reliable, and timely in-process analytics support to enable process development and commercialization spanning the biologics and vaccines pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads or coordinates project planning, resourcing, staffing, supply and subcontract management, progress reporting, troubleshooting, and people management
  • Ensures project results meet requirements regarding technical quality, reliability, schedule and cost
  • Solves technical and non-technical problems throughout the life of the project, tries to resolve problems during the design and planning phases whenever possible
  • Design and conduct analytical investigative studies to support vaccines and biologics process development and process characterization
  • Authoring and/or reviewing technical documents to support Process Performance Qualification (PPQ) and licensure
  • Collaboration and partnership across disciplines and project teams
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and culture of safety and compliance


  • BS in Engineering, Science or related field with ten years relevant experience or MS with eight years relevant experience or PhD with four years relevant experience


  • Work independently and as a Team member with Integrity | Precision | Accomplishment | Motivational Ambition | Respect
  • Demonstrated hypothesis-driven and independent research skills, problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
  • Experience with UPLC/HPLC analysis of large molecules (SEC, RP, IEX) and/or separations science
  • Outstanding communication (both written & verbal) and people skills
  • Foster a collaborative work environment focused on mentor-ship, coaching, and learning


  • Knowledgeable in Drug Substance and/or Drug Product, end-to-end process development, including microbial, live virus vaccine, gene therapy, or oncolytic virus processes, therapeutic proteins
  • Strong cross-functional background, enabling teams to reach peak performance
  • Provide scientific mentorship and guidance to technical coworkers
  • Demonstrate ability and/or aptitude in imaging database management, visualization tools, and/or leveraging programming tools for data processing
