Position Summary:

We are looking for a native Chinese speaker to take high-level ownership of all Chinese-language content, working with teams of translators, product and marketing specialists, and project managers to ensure accuracy and consistency across the various content types for which translation is managed by our team. Preferred candidates will have a scientific background (life science, medical devices, laboratory equipment, research, or similar scientific field) and experience working with bilingual materials, with a focus on English to Simplified Chinese characters for mainland China, with knowledge of Traditional Chinese characters (Hong Kong / Taiwan), and the ability to be highly effective in a matrix environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with key stakeholders to determine Chinese-specific translation needs and drive strategic initiatives accordingly
  • Hold recurring meetings (mainly via phone or Microsoft Teams) with key stakeholders for planning and report-out on status of projects and initiatives, as well as performance metrics for translated content to demonstrate translation ROI
  • Interface with translation vendors and engage with key internal stakeholders to maintain throughput of translations to final approved copy, posted online, printed, or delivered via other methods
  • Review translated content provided by translation vendors, modify as necessary to ensure accuracy and adherence to Thermo Fisher Scientific guidelines and quality standards, and provide feedback for ongoing quality improvement
  • Coordinate with translators, project managers and product specialists to answer queries and provide clarification to ensure accuracy and consistency
  • Build and maintain a robust network of domain expert reviewers to ensure capacity to handle expected volumes across a diverse portfolio and range of topics
  • Continuously look for process improvements and recommend ways to fill any gaps or address bottlenecks in content flow
  • Create and maintain bilingual glossaries to ensure use of accurate, approved terminology in collaboration with various stakeholders as necessary
  • Be vigilant with regulated products and legal concerns that drive special review and approval requirements for content
  • Provide English-to-Chinese translations as needed for small, urgent matters
  • Work with team members to help localize and maintain country-specific website pages, including updating page elements and components as necessary
  • Track and report translation status and performance metrics, particularly for web content, to show the ROI of translation

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Native Chinese speaker (with writing skillset for Simplified Chinese characters for mainland China)
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident with employment authorization
  • Experience in a scientific field (life science, medical devices, laboratory equipment, research or similar)
  • Excellent understanding of the English language with the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, at all levels of the organization
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher with minimum of 3 years experience in a scientific field (life science, medical devices, laboratory equipment, research or similar)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with MS Office
  • Proven ability to deliver highest quality results while paying strict attention to detail
  • Strong team player that can remain positive during challenging assignments and balance priorities when necessary
  • Have a strong desire to learn continually and grow professionally
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, including interacting and influencing at higher levels

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with linguistic distinctions and requirements for additional variations of Chinese (particularly, Traditional Chinese characters for Hong Kong and Taiwan)
  • Knowledge of web publishing and content management systems is a plus
  • Working knowledge of translation technology (WorldServer, Trados Studio, etc.) is a plus
  • Knowledge of DTP tools (such as Adobe CS, MS Office, etc.)
