Who we are?
Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a progressive Pre-K-12 independent school that has been serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs since 1878. ECFS offers a rich curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities. A co-ed, nonsectarian school, it serves a diverse community of about 1,700 students on two campuses – one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and the other in Manhattan.

The mission of the Ethical Culture Fieldston School Upper Division Community Service Learning Program:
The ECFS Upper Division Community Service Learning Program is guided by three important features: Responsive and enduring community partnerships, student-centered learning and growth, and critical service-learning pedagogy. These essential pillars holistically animate our teaching, learning and programmatic priorities. We believe in the expertise of community partners and stand committed to centering the voices and knowledge of our partners in all aspects of our shared work. We recognize the deep and abiding gifts of sharing in and being led by the wisdom of leaders in social justice work, standing in solidarity with the work being done across a diverse array of communities towards liberation as praxis.
About the Position:
Consistent with the mission of the ECFS Upper Division Community Service Learning(CSL) Program, the Community Service Learning (CSL) Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Upper School Community Service Learning, to coordinate student data, organize events, manage multiple calendars, and to assist the Director in the overall implementation of Community Service Learning Programming.


Essential Responsibilities:

Student Facing Work:
  • Oversee student and CSL advisor calendar
  • Coordinate information on CSL projects listed in the bulletin and website
  • Respond to incoming inquiries, phone calls, and emails from faculty and parents regarding the CSL guidelines and procedures
  • Maintain student requirements database
  • Maintain accurate and updated student progress to be shared on Home Reports

Community Partnership Work:
  • Manage CSL project communication and inquiries from new and long-standing community partners, such as contacting agencies for updated information regarding summer/term internships.
  • Maintain CSL project calendar.
  • Manage partner meetings, including scheduling, agendas, and documentation.
  • Identify new community partnerships, visit potential partners, create virtual discovery calls/meetings.
  • Explore new partnerships with other educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and communities to collaborate on innovative approaches for expanding service-learning opportunities for students .
  • Maintain and strengthen existing partnerships to better meet program goals.

Faculty-facing Work:
  • Coordinate end of summer CSL orientation presentations with Deans Upper School principal and assistant principals.
  • Update the grade deans on all CSL requirements, metrics, announcements, changes, and parent and faculty communication efforts.
  • Provide frequent updates to the grade-level advisors about CSL requirements, announcements, and pertinent changes to the student experience.

CSL program support work:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date budget and track items related to the overall operation of the CSL Office, including petty cash, travel reimbursements, office supplies, and service project supplies and inventory.
  • Coordinate outreach announcements and informational bulletins/website updates with members of the upper school technology team and main office support staff.
  • Support a team of CSL advisors by coordinating bi-weekly meetings, agendas, documents, professional development opportunities, and social justice practitioner development resources.

equirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 5-7 years of experience in Social Work or Social Services, school administration support, or non-profit administration support.
  • Strong written and communication skills.
  • Able to receive constructive feedback and have the ability to give feedback when necessary.
  • Must be able to analyze and manage information from multiple sources and constituents.
  • Able to organize critical outreach to an array of audiences and stakeholders via email, meetings, website content development.
  • Must have strong time management, preparation, and pacing skills, and be detail-oriented with schedules and deadlines.
  • Must work effectively with students in aspects of the CSL program related to course project planning, and tracking requirement completion.
  • Must demonstrate the capacity to adjust to dynamic and changing circumstances while balancing programmatic needs, goals, and deadlines.
