Our Biosciences Division is at the forefront of innovation for biosciences analysis research and clinical applications. The Sample Preparation and Protein and Cell Analysis are key business units within the division. The Director Software Engineering will lead very hardworking teams in Bothell, US and Vantaa, Finland, and work with other globally distributed software engineering teams within the organization.


We are looking for an experienced technical leader to lead our global software engineering innovation, development, and sustaining efforts for two of our highest revenue producing businesses within Biosciences (BID) division. The role works alongside our imaging, detection and sample preparation Leadership team and leads the overall software strategy and execution for this portfolio. The position is accountable for the budgets, provides leadership to a team of 40+ software professionals, influences delivery, and leads a pool of external partners.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Mindset

  • Develops and performs upon a global technology and product road map for the life cycle of current and new products

  • Lead develop, improve, validate, and extend our portfolio for BID instrumentation

  • Global mentality. Understands and has experience operating in this environment. Leverages broad experiences to take on sophisticated problems

  • Accountable for and holds appropriate colleagues accountable for all aspect’s software development

  • Delivery of working solutions in a specific time for a defined milestone is essential, as is the ability to guide the team to build requirements, document design and specifications, and follow standards.

  • BS degree required; MS or PhD preferred


  • 10 years as technical leader with proven work experience

  • Leadership experience leading, developing, and building successful teams

  • Must have 5+ years of management experience in Software preferably within the life sciences industry or relative sophisticated instrumentation product line.

Demonstrated success working in a global matrixed environment

  • Demonstrates passion and enthusiasm for an organization’s vision, and motivates, leads, and empowers others to achieve organizational goals

  • Ability to set organizational goals and to lead and collaborate with others to meet them.

  • Mentors managers and scientists and effectively leads group activities.

  • Repeated expertise in problem solving and prioritization in a dynamic environment with multiple partners

  • Experience in contract management and vendor management

  • Able to travel up to 30% globally
