Job Summary:

The Payroll Accountant will oversee and supervise the payroll functions of various small business clients, ensuring pay is recorded into the accounting system accurately. This position is more of an accounting position for after-the-fact payroll and the position only requires the occasional real-time processing of live payroll. This position is focused on being able to record payroll transactions from third-party payroll providers into QB Online and QB Desktop on a daily basis for various clients. Each payroll may include importing payroll transactions with time allocations and job costing data. In addition, the candidate must be willing to dive into unfamiliar and unique payroll processes that utilize ADP, Paychex, Gusto, and various other payroll systems and process. The candidate must be comfortable with importing and exporting payroll data into accounting systems.


  • Implements and reviews payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll accounting software, systems, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient with payroll software.(ADP / Paychex/ Gusto, Etc)
  • Proficient in QB Desktop and QB Online.

Education and Experience:

  • At least five years of related payroll AND Accounting experience is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • This work-from-home position requires a dedicated at-home office, no exceptions are allowed. Work from home will include working with others on video calls for 75% of the work time/day.
  • Business casual dress is required at all work-from-home positions, no exceptions are allowed.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 – $35.00 per hour
