Reports to: This position reports to the Plant Manager of Commercial Forged Products.

Job Description: We are currently searching for a First-Line Forge Supervisor to be based out of Bedford Park, IL. This person will be responsible for supervising staff in the Forging Department with an emphasis on Continuous Improvement and accomplishment of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost goals. This person will work closely with fellow team members, Engineers, Quality, and Maintenance to help improve machine performance and eliminate waste in the manufacturing process.

Additional Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of processes and equipment within the department and an understanding of the overall process; develop and recommend improvements.
  • Monitor and promote quality procedures, identify and resolve quality problems expeditiously.
  • Identify, Participate, and engage in Continuous Improvement events as needed.
  • Participate in, and/or lead Daily Management stand-up meetings
  • Identify potential or existing equipment problems, assist operators to resolve or report to maintenance department or die room; re-assign workers during downtime.
  • Schedule and assign work to meet production requirements with the best utilization of available manpower and equipment.
  • Comprehend and complete ALL required reports.
  • Maintain an efficient workforce, monitor, train, motivate and develop to optimize their performance and their personal and technical growth. Ensure compliance with company standards, rules and regulations, practices and procedures.
  • Assure that all Safety, Quality and Production expectations are exceeded.
  • Audit employee timecards in Visual ERP within area of responsibility to verify their accuracy.
  • Recommend for hire, fire, acknowledge or discipline as necessary. Document incidents for the record with memo or appropriate forms, such as change of job title or shift, injury, damage to equipment, violation of a rule or regulation, request for time off, failure to perform to standards.
  • Certify or disqualify employees assigned to new positions.
  • Ensure that work areas are maintained in a clean, orderly and safe condition.

Experience:

  • 5 years experience in a Management/Supervisory role in a manufacturing environment
  • High School diploma required
  • Forging knowledge or experience in steel/automotive manufacturing strongly preferred
  • Exposure to working with a union manufacturing plant preferred.
  • Computer literate in spreadsheets and word applications
  • Ability to logically approach equipment troubleshooting situations and take corrective action.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Lean Manufacturing experience a plus
  • Ability to analyze reports and performance metrics
  • Ability to read and understand detailed part drawings and interpret requirements
  • Familiarity with common quality measurement devices (Micrometers, Calipers, etc.)
  • Visual ERP software knowledge a plus

Working Conditions:

This position is primarily in the plant. This position requires standing or walking for 8 hours or more per day. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. This position will be exposed to the various weather elements daily.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year
