Position Summary

A Project Manager position is immediately available in the Taub Institute at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) in New York, NY. The Project Manager will contribute to several on-going and future research studies relating to Biomarker development.


  • Work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to establish/maintain good laboratory practices (GLPs) and carry out on-going and future biomarker research projects in compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements
  • Design, write and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee operational activities and experimental work
  • Develop and validate biomarker assays
  • The candidate will be responsible for the management of IRB protocols for several ongoing studies, including amendments and renewals, along with the drafting and submission of new protocols and other regulatory submissions to the IR
  • Participate in the development and submission of funding proposals, manuscripts and other research-oriented documentation
  • Candidate will assist the Principal Investigator (PI) with the submission of annual progress reports as required by funding agencies for current and future projects
  • Mentor and supervise staff to ensure efficient workflow
  • Receive, record and organize clinical/biomarker samples (Biobank)
  • Ensure biomarker samples and assay kits are preserved and processed in adherence to the highest standards of quality (GCPs, GLPs, SOPs)
  • Manage schedule and maintain laboratory operations, equipment service agreements, supply inventory, as well as compliance with institutional policies
  • Edit and re-submit safety management plan and animal care protocols
  • Monitor and reconcile laboratory budget
  • Assist the PI in the analysis of study data
  • Assist in general laboratory work, including human and rodent sample extraction/purification/ preparation, assays, and other laboratory techniques

  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience required 3 years related experience

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, and work autonomously and as part of a team

  • Excellent organizational, analytical and communication/writing skills.

  • The successful candidate must possess computer proficiency, including experience with Microsoft programs such as Access, Excel, and PowerPoint, with excellent data management skills

  • Critical reasoning skills to identify and resolve complex problems quickly

  • Leadership in determining, recommending and implementing improvements to policies and processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in biological sciences with at least 5 years of biological or clinical laboratory experience with involvement in the processing and analysis of biological samples
